Takes about an hour.
• Famco dampers rusting at the hinge plate. We see this on chimneys where the flue wasn’t swept for years and the creosote held moisture against the cast iron. The hinge pins bind, then the plate cracks when you try to force the handle. Famco’s replacement damper assemblies are easy to get, and we keep the common sizes on the truck. If the chimney’s draft is weak anyway, we’ll talk about whether a top-sealing damper makes more sense than another throat-mounted Famco unit.
• Famco stainless liners pulling apart at the seams on exterior chimneys. This one’s specific to Long Island. Chimneys on the outside wall of the house go through hot-cold cycles all winter, and the liner flexes against the masonry. Over time the seam lock loosens and you get gas leakage into the chase. We’ll camera the liner to confirm, then either re-lock the seam with a liner puller or, if the liner’s too far gone, replace it with a proper Famco-compatible stainless liner. We also work with DuraFlex and HeatShield liners, so you’ll get the right fit for your setup, not just whatever’s in the bin.
• Famco chase covers rusting through at the corners. The factory chase covers on older Famco installations were galvanized, and once the zinc layer burns off near the flue collar, the corners rot fast. By the time you see brown streaks on the siding below the chase, the cover’s already got pinholes. We fabricate a replacement in the gauge steel that should have been there in the first place and coat it, so you’re not doing this again in three years.
• Famco refractory panels cracking behind the firebox. On prefab units from the Famco line, the back and side refractory panels take a beating. The panels crack from thermal shock, and once a crack opens, the firebox shell starts overheating. We replace the panels with OEM Famco refractory when it’s available, and if the panel is discontinued, we’ll cut and fit a refractory-equivalent material that meets the same firebox rating. No guessing. The camera goes in before anything comes out.
