Famco Chimney Cleaning & Sweep Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Famco Chimney Cleaning & Sweep in Long Island: What to Know First

We provide independent Famco chimney cleaning and sweep service across Long Island, and most jobs are done in a single visit. You’ll know the exact price before we start, and if your Famco unit only needs a sweep, that’s all we’ll charge you for. No liner upsell, no “while we’re up there” surprises.

Call (516) 968-5380

This page is for homeowners who have a Famco fireplace, stove, or chimney system and want someone who actually knows how these units age on Long Island. If you’re seeing soot buildup, a lazy flame, or smoke backing into the room, call (516) 968-5380 and we’ll talk through what’s going on.

How Famco Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • Famco zero-clearance fireplaces and creosote glaze. Famco zero-clearance boxes tend to run hotter and tighter than masonry setups, which means the flue walls collect a denser creosote layer faster. We see first-degree creosote turn to third-degree glaze in a single burn season on Famco units that get used five nights a week. The fix is a mechanical sweep with the right-size poly brush, then a camera check to confirm the glaze is gone.
  • Famco air-cooled chimney sections and soot bridging. The double-wall air-cooled pipe used on many Famco installations pulls air up between the inner and outer walls. On Long Island, where we get real temperature swings, that air gap catches soot and moisture and can bridge into a blockage. We brush the inner liner and vacuum the air gap from the top down. Most national-chain sweeps never open the pipe far enough to see it.
  • Famco wood stove adapters and warped flue collars. We’ve seen several Famco stove adapters warp after years of hot burns, especially in Levittown ranch houses where the stove was added to an existing hearth. A warped collar lets smoke slip past the connection. Sometimes it needs a new adapter, sometimes it just needs to be reseated and sealed. We’ll tell you which one it is before we do either.
  • Famco spark arrestors clogged with Long Island pine needles. If you live anywhere near the Pine Barrens or have a neighbor with eastern white pines, the spark arrestor on top of your Famco cap is doing more than stopping sparks. It’s catching a mat of needles that blocks airflow and sends smoke back down the flue. We see this every fall. It’s a ten-minute fix, but only if you’re actually on the roof looking at it.
  • Famco refractory panels cracking in the firebox. The refractory brick panels inside Famco fireplaces are fibrous and brittle. After ten or twelve years of heat cycling, they crack, and pieces fall into the firebox. That changes airflow and can make the unit burn dirtier. We can source OEM panels, but honestly, quality aftermarket panels from Gelco or Copperfield often fit a Famco box just as well and cost less. We’ll show you your video before we recommend anything.

Our Famco Chimney Cleaning & Sweep Process

Here’s what a Famco cleaning and sweep looks like when you call Top Hat Chimney:

  1. 1
You call (516) 968-5380. A live person answers. It might be Wendell. We’ll ask what you’re seeing, what model Famco you have if you know it, and when the last sweep happened.
  2. 2
We set a real arrival window. Not a four-hour block. We’ll call if we’re running twenty minutes behind. The sweep who shows up is background-checked, in uniform, and knows Famco units.
  3. 3
We inspect before we clean. Wendell or one of his crew looks at the firebox, the flue, the cap, and the chimney crown. On a Famco, we’re specifically checking the air-cooled pipe sections, the refractory panels, and the spark arrestor. You get camera footage of everything we find.
  4. 4
We quote, then we sweep. You get the price before a tool comes off the truck. The sweep is done drop-cloth clean, with a HEPA vacuum running the whole time. The number you hear on the phone is the number on the invoice.
  5. 5
We show you the after-video. You’ll see the flue walls cleaner than they’ve been in years, or we’ll tell you plainly what still needs attention and what can wait.
  6. 6
You get the 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If anything about the sweep isn’t right, one call brings us back. No charge, no argument.

What Famco Chimney Cleaning & Sweep Costs in Long Island

For a standard Famco fireplace or stove sweep in Long Island, you’re looking at $229 to $349, depending on the unit and how long it’s been since the last cleaning. Our price includes the full mechanical sweep, the HEPA vacuum setup, and the camera inspection before and after. We don’t upcharge for the camera footage. It’s how we’ve always done it, because you should be able to see the inside of your own flue.

The price moves up when glazed creosote requires chemical treatment or extended mechanical work, or when we’re also clearing a blocked air-cooled pipe section. If we find something that needs a repair, that’s a separate quote, and you’re never obligated. Ask about the free second opinion on any written estimate from another company, and the $40 off any repair over $200. Seniors and veterans always get 10% off. Call (516) 968-5380 and we’ll give you a straight number.

Why Long Island Homeowners Call Top Hat Chimney for Famco Work

Wendell Pike started Top Hat Chimney in 1999, and he’s been inside more Famco flues than he can count. Long Island houses run the full range, from tight ranches in Massapequa to old colonials out near Huntington, and a Famco unit installs differently in each one. Wendell grew up in San Diego and learned construction and building technology at San Diego Mesa College, but the years that matter are the ones he’s spent on Long Island roofs, figuring out how salt air and freeze-thaw cycles age a chimney from the top down.

We also service DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco systems, so when a Famco liner is beyond saving and you need a HeatShield resurfacing or a DuraFlex liner installed, we can handle it without punting you to another company. If your Famco doesn’t need fixing, we’ll tell you that first. That’s not a sales pitch. It’s how we’ve kept our name in this community for over 29 years.
